New content

It’s been a while since the last update. I’ve been quite busy, but have still managed to accumulate a number of images for the website. Many of my recent images are now also available on shutterstock for commercial use. (Note that images on this website are for non-commercial use only. I also request that I am contacted prior to any usage.)

New species added today:

– Mecynorrhina polyphemus – Ixodes ricinus

New photos for species already on the website:

– Harmonia axyridis – Malachius bipustulatus – Phosphuga atrata (Formerly Silpha atrata) – Lytta vesicatoria – Geotrupes stercorarius

More content will be added in the future.

Some new species

I realise it has been quite a while since the last update. The site isn’t dead, I have simply exhausted the specimens available to me!

I have however managed to photograph the odd specimen here and there, and will be putting them on the site as and when I can.

Today I have added Daphnia magna and Lagocheirus araneiformis. The daphnia photographs were created by making a tiny “Daphnia aquarium” out of microscope slides, and shot using a Canon 5D MkIII and MP-E 65mm 1-5x macro lens at 5x.

22/12/2013 – New guide

I’ve added a basic guide on how to un-jam the Brass quick-release trigger pin on a Manfrotto tripod head. It requires drilling a small hole in the pin, but other than that it is fairly easy to do. Saves £50 to replace the head if this happens to you!

31/08/2013 Updates

Earlier in the week I finally finished thumbnailing all 800 pages of the taxonomic directory.

Today I’m adding a few high-detail (recent) photos to Melolontha melolontha and Geotrupes pyrenaeus.

I’m hoping that the next stage, will be to go through the directory again, and update the naming of the species, as I’m aware that many species in the collections have been re-classified (Geotrupes for instance!).

I will also be adding some beginners guides to Helicon and Zerene stacking programs, as well as equipment reviews/information and updating the links section. If you know of any websites that are suitable, please do get in touch!
